A Canadian astronaut from London, Ontario is going to the moon.
Jeremy Hansen will join three American astronauts on the crew of the Artemis-2 mission, heading into deep space for a figure-8 around the moon before returning to Earth.
The announcement at NASA in Houston this morning, was held alongside the Canada Space Agency.
The four astronauts are forming the first crewed mission to the moon since the final Apollo mission took flight in 1972.
Artemis 2 will be similar to the flight of Apollo 8, which sent astronauts Frank Borman, Jim Lovell, and Bill Anders on humanity’s first trip around the moon.
The next mission, Artemis 3, plans to land the first woman and the first person of colour on the moon, likely near Shackleton Crater at the South Pole.
