There was some “Magic” in the air in the skies over the Comox Valley earlier this month.
On April 9th, in partnership with BC RCMP Air Services, Police Services Dog Magic and a few of his colleagues from Campbell River, Duncan and Nanaimo took part in some training high up in the air over the Valley.
The training took place at a property on Headquarters Road with plenty of space to move around.
It included both fully operational police dogs and enthusiastic up-and-comers, one only 5-months old.
The exercise was an introduction to the sights, sounds, and vibrations of a helicopter in action.
Magic’s handler, Constable Chris Johnson, says the environment they work in on Vancouver Island can be rugged, remote, and fast changing.
He says practicing helicopter deployment ensures their dogs are desensitized to the noise, and ready to enter and exit the helicopter safely whether they’re seasoned veterans or new on the job rookies.
