More Heavy Wind And Rain Expected For Our Listening Area Today

Friday, November 22, 2024 at 9:04 AM

By Jay Herrington

We expect another wind storm today and tonight, however less intense than the last one we saw this week.

There’s been another wind warning issued for East Vancouver Island - Campbell River to Nanoose Bay, and the Sunshine Coast - Saltery Bay to Powell River.

Winds won’t be as intense as earlier in the week - southeast winds around 70 km/hr with gusts to 90 km/hr.

An area of low pressure off the Washington coast is forecast to move northwards and approach Vancouver Island this afternoon.

Southeasterly winds will increase through the day today, with peak wind speeds expected tonight. Strong winds will ease somewhat overnight and on Saturday.

While this low is not as intense as the major storm that affected the area on Tuesday and Wednesday, and peak wind speeds are forecast to be generally lower, the strong winds may still cause damage and disruptions, and slow down clean-up efforts.
