North Island MLA Michele Babchuk says new support for manufacturing businesses in Campbell River and Port McNeill will create jobs, promote the development of made-in-B.C. products, and strengthen local communities and their economies.
“Northern Vancouver Island is full of incredible organizations, municipalities, and First Nations that are leading the way when it comes to rural development,” says Babchuk.
“This funding will help create more opportunities for people, business and non-profits to thrive across the northern island.”
Through the BC Manufacturing Jobs Fund, the BC New Democrat government is contributing up to $100,000 toward 2 projects in the region.
Kyuquot and Checleseht First Nation receiving up to $50,000 for operational and technical assessments required for a potential capital project that will construct an electric boat manufacturing facility.
Atli Chip LP in Port McNeill processes wood chips and hog fuel for the pulp and paper industry.
It will receive as much as $50,000 to complete a technical assessment to help determine costs and requirements for replacing aging infrastructure.
