The City of Nelson has provided an update on the condition of the police officer injured in an avalanche while skiing last week.

Constable Mathieu Nolet continues to recover in the ICU of a local hospital and is making “incremental Progress,” but has a long road ahead in his recovery.

The city is also thanking everyone who has written in or sent letters and cards in support of Nolet, and his colleague, Constable Wade Tittemore.

Tittemore was killed in the slide.

A private funeral service will be held on Wednesday at Nelson's Capitol Theatre for 43-year-old Tittemore, who leaves behind a wife and two sons.

The service will be by invitation only and is not open to the public or media.

The city says that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to an online fundraiser to help the officers' families, or to the Nelson Police Foundation.
