Some traffic pattern changes are on the way on Comox Avenue as part of the Comox Valley Sewer Conveyance Project, along with other upgrades in town.
Beginning mid-April at Rodello Street, Comox Avenue will become one-way in sections, with traffic flowing west, towards Glacier View Drive.
The estimated start date for construction is April 14th, with construction taking place Monday to Friday, 7:00 am – 8:00 pm.
Traffic will be one-way through the construction zone 24 hours/day.
Two-way bike and pedestrian traffic will be possible on Comox Avenue through the construction zone.
Construction on Comox Avenue is estimated to span the duration of April to October.
There will be multiple phases of construction, including sewer forcemain work, Town of Comox infrastructure upgrades, new cement curbs and sidewalks, paving, as well as the construction of two new roundabouts at Glacier View Drive and Rodello Street.
The Town says construction will be sequenced to maximize the time that eastbound traffic can travel from Comox Road hill into Comox, and regular updates to those who live and work in the corridor will be provided.
One or more sections of Comox Avenue from Rodello Street to Glacier View Drive could become one-way at short notice and to plan for the potential of one-way westbound traffic in this area.
Drivers are advised to add extra time to their commutes starting next Monday, watch for detour signage, and follow posted speed limits.
Businesses on Comox Avenue are open during construction.
