There is a meeting this afternoon for residents of Cortes Island to go over changes to Electoral Area B’s zoning bylaws.
The Strathcona Regional District began a process in 2017 to review and update bylaws - and after a series of delays is ready to pick things back up.
A zoning bylaw assigns regulations and zones to both land and water within a local government jurisdiction, such as Cortes Island, and specifies what kind of development and activities are permitted within each zone.
The area’s Official Community Plan was developed between 2010 and 2012 and there’s been a shift in priorities since then.
The SRD says a full review of the bylaw is required to ensure it is compliant with changes in legislation and reflects the vision, goals, objectives, and policies of the OCP.
The SRD is holding a drop-in today at Manson’s Hall between 1 pm and 4 pm.
