Parliamentarians Return To House Of Commons For First Session Of 2023

Members of Parliament are back to work in Ottawa as the first session of 2023 begins in the House of Commons.

While the Liberals say they will focus on the high cost of living, the Conservatives say they’ll take aim at the Trudeau government’s spending habits.

The NDP say they’ll be pushing the government to stick to its supply and confidence agreement - looking for word soon on a national dental care plan.

Leader Jagmeet Singh also says he’ll be asking for an emergency debate on the privatization of healthcare services, saying the practice would lead to the poaching of doctors and nurses away from hospitals.

Ontario recently announced it is moving some procedures - like cataract surgeries, and hip and knee replacement - to publicly funded, private facilities to address a growing surgery wait-list.

Alberta and Saskatchewan have also made similar moves.
