Comox Valley RCMP have made an arrest following multiple reports of property damage and a break-and-enter incident in Cumberland earlier this month.

On February 4th, officers responded to a report of a suspicious man running through backyards and jumping fences in the 3200-block of 10th Street.

Upon arrival, police were directed to a residence where they found the suspect inside.

He was promptly arrested for break and enter.

"Thanks to vigilant community members, officers were able to locate and arrest the suspect quickly," said Constable Monika Terragni, Media Relations Officer for Comox Valley RCMP.

"Due to his concerning behavior, he was taken to the hospital for medical assessment before being transported to jail. Once medically cleared, he was held in police custody to appear in court."

49 year old Matthew Maveety has been charged with break and enter, resisting arrest, and mischief to property.

He’s back in court on February 27th.

An officer sustained minor injuries during the arrest.
