Some public info sessions are coming up as the Comox Valley Regional District picks up the pace on sewer system upgrades.

The Comox Valley Sewer Conveyance Project will route sewer pipes further inland where they will no longer be vulnerable to damage by waves, rocks, and logs.

The CVRD says the project is key to protecting the coastline, resolving environmental risk, and preparing for future growth.

Starting in March, the project will last approximately 30 months and will be executed in two phases.

The first phase involves works in the Town of Comox and sections of Electoral Area B in the Lazo Road area.

The second phase begins next year and will entail the construction along Comox Road and along Comox Avenue to Rodello Street.

Construction will affect many residents and businesses in the downtown core in the Town of Comox and eastern portions of Comox, including sections of Electoral Area B.

There are a pair of in-person open houses this month - the first on Tuesday, January 16th, from 4pm-7pm at the Little Red Church on Comox Ave.

Another, the following Tuesday, January 23rd, from 230pm-5pm at the Comox Community Centre.

There will also be an online webinar on Thursday, January 25th from  11:30 am to 1 pm

In advance of construction of the sewer force main, there will be preparatory work involving utility locates, soil sampling, and storm and watermain replacements starting on January 15th and continuing throughout February and March, which will cause some minor traffic disruption.

The CVRD’s Chief Administrative Officer, James Warren, says all commuters residing, working, and travelling on some of the busiest routes will be impacted in some form or another, and says staff will focus on minimizing traffic disruptions where possible.
