The Town of Qualicum Beach is getting an additional half a million dollars in funding from the province for the Beach Creek Viewing Platform and Walkway Project.
The money adds to the more than one million dollars from the Active Transportation Fund, and another half million from BC Active Transportation. Nearly two-thirds of the project value has been covered by provincial and federal grants.
According to a release, the combined grant funding gives recognition to the value of the Beach Creek Viewing Platform and Walkway as a transformative project ‘’set to elevate it into a premier tourist attraction that promotes environmental education, public safety, and active transportation.’’
The Town was one of 31 new recipients to receive this one-time provincial grant, projects chosen for their contribution to communities, benefits to the tourism economy, and support for sustainability and accessibility.
The Town says the project is hoped to not only attract visitors, but also to educate the local ecosystem through interpretive displays and informative signage.
Ultimately, the transformation of the Beach Creek waterfront is intended to support local businesses and foster community pride, revitalizing the area into a prized destination for both residents and visitors.
