Campbell River RCMP are hoping what some kids may consider harmless fun, doesn’t turn into criminal mischief.

In the Penfield area, cases of Nicky Nine Doors are on the rise - where kids ring the doorbell of a home and run off.

A most recent case of note involved a young person dressed up in a cow costume pulling the prank on a home owner.

Constable Maury Tyre of the Campbell River RCMP says while many consider the game a harmless prank, cases have gone too far in the Penfield area, saying yards have been broken in haste and the repetitive nature of the events which have occurred as late as 3:00 am has stretched beyond fun, to disturbing to many residents in the area.

Constable Tyre says on more than one occasion the young people have ended up being physically apprehended by residents “who have hit their breaking point.”

Police are hoping that some of the older folks can teach the younger ones what is fun and what is criminal mischief in order to prevent further disturbance calls in the area.
