Tire Stewardship BC has again partnered with Comox Strathcona Waste Management to collect residential scrap tires next weekend (Saturday, July 15 & Sunday, July 16) during Sayward Clean-Up Days.
The scrap tires that are collected - and turned in at the Main Road Yard on Island Highway in Sayward - will be recycled and turned into new products such as community playground surfaces, athletic tracks, recreational flooring in ice skating areas, fitness rooms and home gym mats.
Tire Stewardship BC also just opened applications for their 2023 Community Grant Program, which provides an opportunity for communities to use and benefit from a wide range of recycled tire products.
TSBC will provide financial support to select organizations across the province that have chosen to use recycled tire rubber for their upcoming projects.
Since 1991, over 100 million tires have been recycled in B.C.
TSBC’s scrap tire recycling program is one of the most successful in North America and the oldest recycling program in Canada. Every year in B.C. over five million scrap car tires are recycled into new products.
