Remembrance Day In Raven Country

Events will take place this weekend to recognize Remembrance Day, Monday, November 11th, to recall the end of First World War hostilities.

Friday, November 8, is National Indigenous Veterans Day, observed in Canada since 1994, in recognition of aboriginal contributions to military service.

Many students will be attending in-school Remembrance Day ceremonies today with schools closed on Monday, November 11th.

Municipal offices will be closed on Monday, and a reminder that garbage pickup will be bumped ahead one day next week.

The Remembrance Day Ceremony in Courtenay will be a public event taking place on Cliffe Avenue between 2nd and 5th Streets, beginning at approximately 10:45 a.m.

The road will be closed from 9:00 a.m. till noon for the ceremony.

The Remembrance Day parade in Comox begins at 1030am on Monday, with a portion of Comox Ave to be closed to traffic starting at 10am.

The Royal Canadian Legion Comox Branch #160 is hosting the ceremony for everyone to pay respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice and say "thank you" to those who made it home.

There will be a wreath laying at the Comox cenotaph at 1045am followed by a fly-past.

In Cumberland, Royal Canadian Legion  Branch No. 28 is inviting residents to remember and thank all who have served and sacrificed. Dunsmuir Ave will be closed from Third Street to Fifth Street for the Remembrance Day Parade from 10:00am – 12:00pm.

The Village is asking residents to please save the parking spaces on Fourth Street adjacent to the post office for those with disabilities.
