Residents have started moving into Homewood.

Built through a partnership between the City and BC Housing, and operated by Lookout Housing and Health Society, Homewood provides 40 temporary housing units at 1299 Homewood Road.

Lookout is a non-profit charitable organization that provides a range of housing and health solutions to vulnerable adults living with multiple challenges.

It serves 22 municipalities in Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland.

Homewood, previously referred to as HEARTH Village, will have 40 sleeping units, with access to a shared amenity space and washrooms.

Residents are selected through a process that will place some of the people who have been staying in community shelters into temporary housing with supports, which will help free up shelter beds for those sleeping outside.

Lookout oversees day-to-day operations of the site, which includes 24/7 on-site staff and support services such as peer support, skills training and assistance with navigating the housing system, as the goal is to secure housing.

Keeping Our Word

The word "éy7á7juuthem" means “Language of our People” and is the ancestral tongue of the Homalco, Tla’amin, Klahoose and K’ómoks First Nations, with dialectic differences in each community.

It is pronounced "eye-ya-jooth-hem."
