Comox Valley RCMP have arrested a suspect after a robbery was reported earlier this week in Courtenay.

On Sunday, around 8:45 pm, a woman called police to report she had been assaulted at a business on the 1700-block of Cliffe Avenue.

She reported seeing a male, unknown to her, in the parking lot and she asked him if he needed help. He then allegedly assaulted the victim before taking her wallet.

The 64-year old victim called 911 for help. She was transported to hospital for treatment.

The 44-year old suspect was quickly identified by police using surveillance footage and was arrested on Monday.

Allan Gibson has been charged with robbery and assault causing bodily harm.

He is being held in police custody pending a court appearance.

The victim suffered non-life threatening but serious injuries and is expected to recover.

"This appeared to be an unprovoked attack. I am proud of the response and efforts made by our investigators to apprehend the person believed to be responsible.", said Inspector Scott Mercer, Officer in Charge, Comox Valley RCMP.

Anyone with information, surveillance, cell phone or dashcam footage, is asked to call the Comox Valley RCMP at (250) 338-1321 and refer to file 2024-13766.
