Ronna-Rae Leonard - Running Again

Monday, May 27, 2024 at 6:05 AM

Courtenay-Comox MLA Ronna-Rae Leonard has again been nominated to run for the NDP in the riding for the fall election.

First elected in 2017, Leonard also served as a Courtenay city councillor for nine years.  She has lived in the Comox Valley for 34 years. The party says in a release that Leonard has been a dedicated advocate for families, seniors and the environment throughout her career.

“People in Courtenay-Comox are dealing with challenges, many of which John Rustad, Kevin Falcon and the former government created by helping speculators drive up the cost of housing, increase fees for MSP and ICBC, and cut schools and healthcare.” said Leonard. “David Eby and I are on your side, and we’re focused on making life better — rather than paving the way for powerful interests to take advantage of people again.”

Premier David Eby says Leonard “has always been on the side of people living in Courtenay-Comox.” Calling her a “thoughtful and hard-working representative for the people,” he says she’ll continue to work “everyday to deliver affordable housing and high quality education, healthcare, and services so you and your family can build a good life here.”

Earlier, North Island MLA Michele Babchuck won the party’s nomination in that riding. She was first elected in 2020.
