Former Post-Secondary Education Minister Selina Robinson has left the NDP caucus.
Robinson left her role in the ministry last month after remarks that sparked an outcry from pro-Palestinian and Muslim groups. Robinson, who is Jewish, said Israel was founded on “a crappy piece of land.”
Yesterday, she announced she was leaving the NDP caucus, citing antisemitism within the party.
"There have been numerous colleagues of mine, intentionally or unintentionally, who have said antisemitic things," said Robinson.
"The Jewish community heard apologies from them, they were accepted and things carried on."
Robinson, who had previously said she would not be running for re-election, will sit as an Independent.
In a statement, Premier David Eby said he was saddened to see Robinson make the decision to leave caucus, saying he wishes she had talked to him directly before making the decision.
