A single vehicle crash north of Campbell River earlier this week has claimed two lives and was likely weather related.
It occurred near Brown's Bay around 3pm Wednesday when a newer model Honda SUV travelling southbound on the North Island Highway left the road colliding with trees.
Four occupants were in the vehicle at the time of the accident.
Two passengers suffered minor injuries and were transported to the local hospital while the driver and another passenger succumbed to injuries at the scene.
The accident is still under investigation by the Campbell River RCMP, but it is believed that a significant hailstorm in the area at the time was a contributing factor.
Campbell River RCMP Constable, Maury Tyre, and the Campbell River detachment offered condolences to the families and the community of the victims, who were central coast residents.
"We appreciate the public and media providing them time and space in these difficult times," Tyre said.
