The Strathcona Regional District has announced the launch of the Northern Area D Universal Water Metering Project Installations.
Funding for the project comes through a $2.8 million provincial grant.
It will bring radio-read water meters to 852 currently unmetered connections in the area, supporting SRD’s commitment to water conservation and efficient water management.
The universal water metering system allows residents real-time insights into their water consumption, with billing directly tied to usage.
Additionally, the collected data will enable the SRD to identify leaks within the water distribution system, ensuring the long-term sustainability and reliability of this critical service.
“Universal metering has proven to be an effective tool for conservation, significantly reducing water demand in neighbouring service areas and setting a strong example for sustainable water management," said Mark Baker, Chair of the Strathcona Regional District Board.
The project will feature the installation of Kamstrup radio-read meters, with work expected to be completed within the next year.
Future phases are planned to address the remaining unmetered properties in the area.
The installation costs will be fully covered by the provincial grant, ensuring no direct financial impact on residents participating in the program.
