The Strathcona Regional District has re-launched the process to develop an Integrated Community Sustainability Plan for Area C, Discovery Islands & Mainland Inlets.
The plan is intended to establish the long-term vision and goals for the future of Area C serving as the compass for decision-making and to support the future development of more detailed planning documents, such as Official Community Plans and zoning bylaws.
The SRD says the process will also help to identify and articulate the priority projects, policies, plans and programs that should be implemented to move towards the vision and goals.
The District is looking for community members to help with the process.
A new task force will be made up of a group of 14-16 members representing the diversity of Area C as much as possible.
The group would work with staff to develop the plan. If you would like to join the task force, you can email the SRD planning department by August 24th: planning@srd.ca.
It's hoped a draft plan will be ready for mid- to late-November. The SRD says the project team is not starting from scratch.
Community members have already provided insight, and the project team hopes this will continue and residents will engage in this next phase.
Recognition that Area C is remote and unique was forefront in the first phase of the project and the SRD says it will continue to ensure this perspective remains throughout the planning process.
