The Strathcona Regional District has announced the development of an Active Transportation Network Plan for Electoral Area C, aimed at enhancing transportation options for residents through walking, cycling, and wheeling.

The initiative is supported by funding from the Province of BC’s Active Transportation Infrastructure Grants Program, which aligns with the CleanBC commitment to increase alternative transportation solutions.

The ATNP will serve as a roadmap for improving active transportation conditions across Quadra Island and its connections to outer communities and beyond.

The plan will be developed in collaboration with community members to identify priority improvements that enhance safety, connectivity, and accessibility for people of all ages and abilities, including those with disabilities.

“Developing an Active Transportation Network Plan is an important step towards creating a safe, accessible, and environmentally friendly transportation network for Area C community members,” said Aniko Nelson, Senior Manager of Community Services.

“Residents are encouraged to participate in future engagement opportunities and share their views on active transportation priorities for the area.”

Priority projects identified in the plan will also help inform the development of a future Master Transportation Plan and update to the Official Community Plan.

The ATNP will also guide public investment in active transportation infrastructure throughout Electoral Area C, enhancing access to key destinations such as parks, schools, services and amenities, and neighbouring communities.

Residents can complete an online or paper survey which will be available starting October 15th and closes November 15, 2024.

There will also be an in-person and virtual engagement session on October 29th.
