Stage 1 water restrictions will be in place beginning this Sunday in our listening area.

Stage 1 water restrictions will be in place beginning this Sunday in our listening area.

The City of Campbell River reminds everyone to be aware of water use – and that stage one watering restrictions are back in effect.

Watering restriction signs have been installed outside the Dogwood Operations Centre (Merecroft and Dogwood), and at Alder and Coronation.

Lawn watering is permitted as follows:

• Odd-numbered addresses on Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday from 5 to 9 a.m. and 7 to 10 p.m.

• Even-numbered addresses on Monday, Wednesday, Saturday from 5 to 9 a.m. and 7 to 10 p.m.

There are no restrictions on watering gardens, trees, shrubs and community gardens by hand or with

spring-loaded type nozzles with automatic shut-off connected to the hose.

Guidelines for water conservation and lawn care:

• Mow lawns to a length of three inches or more, reducing moisture loss and sunburn.

• Set sprinklers to water for 20 minutes or less per lawn watering session.

• Water for a maximum of two sessions per week, to encourage deep root systems.

• Provide good aeration and drainage to create a healthy lawn.

The Comox Valley Water System will also be under Stage 1 water restrictions beginning May 1, 2022, which come into effect every year at this time.

Under Stage 1, lawn and garden sprinkling is permitted between the hours of 5 am - 8 am and 7 pm -10 pm, on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday for even numbered addresses and Wednesday, Friday and Sunday for odd numbered addresses.

The Comox Valley Water System moves to Stage 1 restrictions on May 1 each year. Not only is this the right thing to do from a conservation perspective but it also helps prepare for the shift to Stage 2 when lake levels begin to decrease and BC Hydro adjusts the Puntledge River water flows. The CVRD's water license requires that water restrictions are tied to these flows.

The Comox Valley Water System includes the Town of Comox, City of Courtenay, and the Comox Valley Water Local Service Area.
