Police say one man is in custody following the standoff, which lasted about six hours yesterday at a home on Rydal Avenue. Comox Valley RCMP had tweeted out that the incident was confined to one home and the general public was not considered to be at risk.

They arrived on the scene around 7a.m. yesterday as several neighbouring homes were evacuated. The Emergency Response Team entered the home around 1:45 p.m after hours of lengthy negotiations failed to provide a positive outcome.

Loud bangs could be heard as team members moved in and the man surrendered to police outside the home.

RCMP are expected to release more information on the incident today.
