The Strathcona Regional District is developing a Wildfire Fuel Management Prescription for the Blenkin Park Area on Quadra Island.
The prescription will consider the balance between potential fire behaviour implications and conservation values over the 17.6 hectare area.
Blenkin Park was identified as a high priority for treatment in the 2022 Quadra Island Community Wildfire Resiliency Plan.
A wildfire fuel management prescription is a standard document that describes the recommended fuel management activities in an identified area that will reduce fire behaviour.
It is expected that the post-treatment stand conditions will result in reduced fire behaviour such as a decrease in fire intensity and the potential for sustained ignition.
The SRD will be holding a recorded public info session once the plan is developed and approved.
The SRD points out that as of right now, there is no modification to the forest occurring under this stage of the project - they're just in planning.
