The Federal Government is cutting Canadians a break for a couple months.

The Liberals announced yesterday that starting December 14th they are pausing GST and HST for two months to make groceries, kids clothes and other essentials tax-free.

The PM also announced a $250 cheque in April for Canadians who made $150-thousand or less, under the Working Canadians Rebate.

Many items will lose the federal tax including children's clothing and footwear, diapers and car seats.

Items also included will be books and newspapers, and Christmas trees.

Essential grocery items are already tax exempt but items a little cheaper on the shelf will include pop and chips, cakes and doughnuts, and wine, beer, ciders and coolers.

The tax pause will be in effect from December 14th to February 15th.
