You may have seen some new tech as you’ve been touring the trails in the Town of Comox.
The Town has recently installed park and trail counters to gauge usage.
The counters sense and detect the infrared wavelength that pedestrians and wheeled traffic emit and trigger as they pass by the sensor.
The counters have recently been installed at various Comox park and trail locations to collect general data on park use, with the information collected helping to assist staff with operational work, capital improvements, and assist with grant applications.
Town staff are asking for public support by not tampering with the boxes so that the program can be maintained for the betterment of the Town’s parks and trails.
Statistics on park use will be posted annually on the Town’s website.
The counters will be in place indefinitely and can be repositioned to other park locations to track usage.
