The Town of Comox has launched a new initiative designed to support homeowners in creating additional housing options within the community.

The Home Suite Home incentive program offers a $3,000 grant to homeowners who develop a new accessory dwelling unit or bring an existing unauthorized ADU up to the current BC Building Code and zoning bylaw standards.

The main objectives of the program are to support homeowners looking to build new coach houses or renovate existing secondary suite spaces to bring them up to industry code and to increase the availability of housing options in the community.

To be eligible, the ADU must not be decommissioned nor used as a short-term rental for a 5-year period following occupancy.

The program is limited to the first 25 qualifying ADUs and is funded through the federal Housing Accelerator Fund, which the Town of Comox received last year.

Homeowners planning to construct a new coach house or upgrade an unauthorized secondary suite in an existing detached home may be eligible.

The program will help the Town meet provincial requirements to pre-zone over 3,000 units by the end of 2025.

Full eligibility details and the application process can be found at Town of Comox.
