If you’re looking for a new career, the Town of Comox is looking to give you a hand.
The Town of Comox, in partnership with the Recreation Facilities Association of British Columbia, is hosting the Building Service Worker level 1 course in March at the Comox Community Centre.
The training program provides an essential stepping stone for individuals looking to enter the custodial field, with additional incentives offered to encourage local participation.
The course introduces the fundamentals of custodial knowledge and skills and prepares participants for employment in community centres, school boards, colleges, and other institutions.
The Town notes there can be challenges in recruiting qualified custodial staff. So, after the course, it will offer interview opportunities for participants to fill a casual position with the Town, and a reimbursement of part of the program costs for people who end up working as a result of it.
“We’re in need of custodial staff, but many applicants who apply do not have the foundational BSW certification,” said Comox’s Recreation Director, Ted Hagmeier.
“By hosting this course locally and offering incentives, we’re making it easier for people to get the training they need to join our team. It is a win-win for the Town and for participants looking to secure employment.”
Early registration is encouraged as space is limited.
