The family of Murray Sinclair has provided an update on the health of the former Senator.
Sinclair has been in hospital for a few months and in a post on Facebook this weekend his family wrote that his health has taken a turn.
The 73 now year old remains in serious condition in the ICU in Winnipeg.
The post said that for the past week his children and grandchildren have gathered to be with him and remain by his side 24 hours a day.
They wrote that the doctors and medical staff are doing everything to support Sinclair as much as they can, but he does have a challenging road ahead.
Sinclair served as chairman of the Indian Residential Schools Truth and Reconciliation Commission from 2009 to 2015.
He was a judge in Manitoba from 1988 to 2009 and was the first Indigenous judge appointed in the province.
He was appointed to the Senate in 2016 and served until 2021.
His family continued: “We know the power of collective prayer and community support as well, so wanted to share this update in the spirit of our shared love for him.”
