It is May 1st - and that means many communities are kicking off Stage One water restrictions.
City of Campbell River Stage 1 Restrictions:
Residential watering is permitted from 5 to 9 a.m. and 7 to 10 p.m.
Even-numbered address: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays
Odd-numbered address: Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays
Non-residential watering is permitted from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m.
Even-numbered address: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays
Odd-numbered address: Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays
Properties are considered non-residential if watering of common areas is controlled by a central system or strata and not the individual units or residents.
Watering gardens, trees, shrubs, and community gardens by hand or with a spring-loaded type of nozzle with automatic shut-off connected to hose is allowed at any time during the day in all watering restriction stages.
City of Courtenay Stage 1 Restrictions:
A person may only use a sprinkler to water a lawn or garden growing on a property with:
An even numbered address – Between the hours of 5 am to 8 am and 7 pm to 10 pm on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. They may not use a sprinkler to water the lawn or garden on any other day or time.
An odd numbered address – Between the hours of 5 am to 8 am and 7 pm to 10 pm on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. They may not use a sprinkler to water the lawn or garden on any other day or time.
Local governments may use a sprinkler to water parks, ornamental lawns, and grassed boulevards between the hours of 11 pm and 7 am on even numbered days for even numbered addresses and odd numbered days for odd numbered addresses.
Comox Valley Regional District Stage 1 Restrictions:
Even Address
Lawn and garden sprinkling is permitted between the hours of 5 am - 8 am and 7 pm -10 pm on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
Odd Address
Lawn and garden sprinkling is permitted between the hours of 5 am - 8 am and 7 pm -10 pm on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.
Village of Cumberland water system Stage 1 water restrictions:
Lawn sprinkling is permitted between the hours of 4 am – 10 am and 7 pm -10 pm, on Wednesday and Saturday for even numbered addresses and Thursday and Sunday for odd numbered addresses.
The Comox Valley fire departments also enacted a category 2 and 3 burning ban. It went into effect at noon on Tuesday, April 30, 2024.
The ban applies to all properties within the CVRD’s Fire Protection Areas including Hornby and Denman Islands, as well as properties within the City of Courtenay, Town of Comox, Village of Cumberland, and Ships Point Fire Protection Area.
Campfires are still allowed in most areas, but you will need to confirm with the local fire department. Beach fires will be permitted, where allowed.
