Environment Canada has issued rain and wind warnings for the region.

A Rainfall Warning is in effect for East Vancouver Island - from Nanoose Bay to Campbell River, and the Sunshine Coast, with heavy rain is expected today through tomorrow.

Rain amounts could reach near 50 mm with locally higher amounts of 50 to 80 mm between Buckley Bay and Qualicum Bay.

Rain will intensify through the afternoon, with the heaviest expected tonight.

The rainfall should ease early Saturday morning on Vancouver Island and Saturday afternoon on the Sunshine Coast, though a second pulse of rain is expected Sunday.

Also, strong southeast winds of 70 km/h gusting to 90 will develop early Friday afternoon then ease by Saturday morning.
