A wind warning is in effect for East Vancouver Island, from Courtenay to Campbell River.
Peak wind speeds with gusts of about 90-100 km/h are expected tonight and into tomorrow morning.
The warning is also in place for Sunshine Coast, Greater Victoria, Southern Gulf Islands, Inland Vancouver Island.
A rapidly deepening low pressure system will arrive approximately 400 kms west of Vancouver Island by late today, before heading northwards tomorrow, remaining offshore through the period.
Easterly winds will increase through this afternoon, with peak speeds expected for most areas tonight.
Strong southeasterly winds will continue Wednesday morning but should ease later in the day.
The Town of Comox, among other municipalities, is suggesting residents update emergency kits for colder temperatures in prolonged power outages.
The Town also notes that strong winds may down trees or cause tree limbs to break.
It’s a good idea to secure loose outdoor objects and clean your gutters of added debris.
