Winds Knock Power Out To Thousands On East Vancouver Island

Monday, February 24, 2025 at 6:58 AM

By Jay Herrington

Another weekend of windy weather meant many in the region were without power for a stretch.

Environment Canada had a wind warning in place with gusts up to 90 kph and the lights went out for more than 7-thousand people shortly after 10am Saturday.

Most of those affected were in the Campbell River and Courtenay areas and down to Qualicum Beach. Most had power restored by mid Saturday afternoon.

While it will still be windy the next few days there are no current warnings in place.

The windy weather was on top of a 4.7 magnitude quake off Sechelt on Friday afternoon.

The quake, which hit at 1:26pm Friday, was felt across Vancouver Island and the South Coast.

There was no tsunami warning and no reports of damage.
