Work was to begin this week on transportation upgrades to 5th Street in Courtenay.

The repaving works planned for 5th Street Hill have been postponed due to weather; the rescheduled date is yet to be confirmed.

Construction will be rescheduled overnight to limit disruption to traffic.

When the time is right, the City will be repaving the eastbound and westbound lanes of the 5th Street hill approach to the bridge as well as the intersection at 5th Street and Cliffe Avenue.

The 5th Street hill is one of the most heavily travelled routes in Courtenay; the project will improve the strength of the driving surface by adding special fibres containing enhanced structural properties and strength to the new asphalt, which is intended to address the rutting from the aging asphalt.

For questions regarding this project, residents are asked to contact Operational Services, City of Courtenay, at (250) 338-1525 or email operations@courtenay.ca.
